Developmental Drawing
"Developmental Drawing", begins with highly observed drawings, looking at still lives using objects relating to my theme of child loss through miscarriage and still birth. The drawings b=above where created in a variety of media:
- Conte
- Charcoal
- Soft Pastel
- Pencil
- Acrylic paint
"Developmental Drawings"
Drawings
Acrylic paint, charcoal, conte, pencil, soft pastel, A1/A2/A3 paper, red ink, bamboo stick, tense machine, video camera, black balloons, pose pens, masking tape, eggs, baby dolls, acetate, cyanotype, sponges, paint brushes, putty rubber, incubator, red pen, pregnant belly.
These highly observed drawings later progressed into "Developmental Drawings". which become less and less observed. The work below was created using a tense machine attached to my arm as I try and draw. Simulating the feeling of pregnancy through my arm, restricting my movement.
Video progression below. Work created in front of an audience.

Another drawing was created on black balloons, using post pens. Depicting an empty incubator and one filled with colourful balloons. Using a projector to create the outline of the drawing. Linking other art works and drawing together.
Video and images below of process.
Another drawing process I experimented and developed with was cyanotype. Linking together elements of other art works created by myself, I used cyanotype on eggs, in a variety of ways and also on paper. Creating short narratives and suggesting at the idea of being inside the web, like an ultra scan.
I experimented an developed many ways of creating drawings. I felt it was more about the process and the interpretations of the final outcome that where important.
The work below was a Live Art Work. Where I attempted to draw from inside the incubator. Which was restricting in my movements. I drew 11 babies inside the incubator as that is how many seconds a minute that a baby dies in the world. The end result is not the best but that is the point.
Final drawings include drawing with the incubator to create a heartbeat.
